General Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery

Successful orthopedic surgery requires the talents of an experienced orthopedic surgeon. In Richmond, VA, Dr. Kennedy Daniels has performed successful procedures on many satisfied patients.

Overall, the practice of orthopedics and orthopedic surgery focuses on problems or injuries of the body’s musculoskeletal system. Some common orthopedic outpatient procedures include the following:

Carpal Tunnel Release

This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis. A small incision is made near the palm area of the hand. Once inside the hand, the transverse ligament is cut.

Trigger Finger Release

Small incision made to cut the tendon sheath tunnel and release the tension of the finger. Most patients are able to move their finger immediately after surgery.

Removal of Ganglion Cysts

This surgery is also an outpatient procedure. Sometimes the removal of the cysts may also include removing part of the joint capsule.

Removal of Small Benign Tumors

Removing small tumors from the bone reduces the risk of immobilization and fracture.

Tennis Elbow Release

Open surgery is the most common approach to tennis elbow release, but this procedure can sometimes be done through arthroscopic measures. The patient’s arm will need to be in a splint for about a week after surgery.

Fracture Repair

This procedure depends on the severity of the fracture to the bone, but is generally outpatient with some sort of brace or splint prescribed during the patient’s recovery time.
